What ShifuCut collects, why, who processes it, how long it is kept, and how to delete it.

Who we are

ShifuCut provides this app. ShifuCut controls the account, the projects, the support messages, and the product analytics the app sends. The companies listed below process data to provide their part of the service.

Privacy requests go to support@shifucut.com. You can also use Contact support in the app.

What ShifuCut does

ShifuCut is an iPhone video editor. You import or record a clip, edit it on the phone, and export it to Photos or the share sheet. ShifuCut does not publish your clip and does not show it to other people.

Some features send data off the phone only when you use them: an account, Autocut, captions, cloud project sync, a subscription, and support.

Information you give us

  • Email address and password, when you create an account or sign in with email.
  • Name, when you save one on the account.
  • A Google sign-in, when you choose that. Google gives the app the identity used for the account.
  • Support messages, including the topic, the text, the account email, and a screenshot if you attach one. Chat messages are stored as well.
  • Onboarding answers: the pains you pick, minutes, and videos per week. Those are sent as product analytics, described below.

Information from the iPhone

The system asks before the feature uses these. The words in the app are:

  • Camera: “ShifuCut uses the camera to record a video for your edit.”
  • Microphone: “ShifuCut records the sound of your video so the edit can include it.”
  • Photos, to import: “ShifuCut imports clips from Photos.”
  • Photos, to save: “ShifuCut saves exported videos to Photos.”
  • Speech recognition: “ShifuCut finds silent gaps in your clip on this iPhone.”
  • Local network: “ShifuCut connects to the Autocut server on this Wi-Fi network.”

Camera, microphone, Photos, and on-device speech stay on the iPhone except where a feature below sends a file or a transcript.

Information features create

  • Autocut and captions extract audio from the clip and send that audio for transcription. The transcription model is OpenAI Whisper, or a fallback if that call fails.
  • The transcript, with word times, is sent for a keep-range plan. The plan model is Xiaomi MiMo. The phone applies the plan as edits you can undo.
  • If you are signed in and cloud sync is on, the project name, the edit document, and the media files are uploaded. Media is stored in Backblaze when cloud storage is on.
  • A subscription is bought from Apple. ShifuCut receives the subscription status through RevenueCat. It does not receive your card number.
  • Support chat is answered by a model. The models are GLM 5.3 Flash, then Ling 3.0 Flash, then Qwen 3.7 Flash if an earlier call fails. The model can save a ticket on your account. It cannot read another person’s tickets.
  • Each support ticket is stored and emailed to support@shifucut.com.

Product analytics

ShifuCut sends product analytics to Amplitude so the product can be improved. It does not read the advertising identifier. The account id sent to Amplitude is an internal id, not your email.

Events are onboarding steps, leaving onboarding, the paywall, the plan and billing choice, purchase started, completed, cancelled, and failed, and restore started, completed, and failed. Properties can include the step name, a clip source such as the camera or the photo library, the pains, minutes, and videos-per-week answers, and the plan. Video, audio, transcripts, passwords, and precise location are not included.

Amplitude also receives usual device context, which can include the app version, the device, the operating system, the locale, a session id, and an identifier for this developer’s apps. Amplitude receives the IP address of the connection.

There is no switch in Settings to turn this off. Paid editing does not depend on analytics. ShifuCut does not collect crash reports.

How the information is used

  • To run the editor and export.
  • To create the account and keep the session.
  • To transcribe a clip and propose a cut when you start Autocut or captions.
  • To sync a project you have signed in to save.
  • To record the subscription Apple sells and to restore it.
  • To answer a support message and keep a copy so it can be reviewed.
  • To see how onboarding and purchase are used, so the product can be improved.
  • To meet a legal duty if one applies.

ShifuCut does not sell personal information and does not share it for advertising. There is no ad network in the app.

If you are in the EEA or the UK

  • Account, Autocut, captions, cloud sync, and the subscription are provided because you asked for them.
  • Support messages are handled because you sent them.
  • Product analytics start when you open the app. There is no separate prompt. You can ask us to stop by writing to support@shifucut.com.
  • ShifuCut does not send marketing email.

Who else processes it

  • Apple, for the App Store, the purchase, Photos, camera, microphone, and on-device speech.
  • Supabase, for the account and for project, job, usage, and support records.
  • The ShifuCut API, for transcription, cut plans, project sync, usage, and support.
  • Backblaze, for media files when cloud storage is on.
  • OpenRouter, which routes the audio, the transcript, and the support chat to a model provider.
  • OpenAI, for speech-to-text.
  • Xiaomi, for the keep-range plan.
  • The providers behind GLM 5.3 Flash, Ling 3.0 Flash, and Qwen 3.7 Flash, for support chat.
  • RevenueCat, for the subscription record.
  • Amplitude, for the product analytics listed above.

These companies may store the data on servers outside your country. OpenRouter routes the request. ShifuCut does not use your footage to train its own models. Each model provider keeps the request under its own rules.

How long it is kept

  • The account is kept until you delete it, or until you ask us to delete it and we have done so, unless the law requires a copy to be kept.
  • Projects on the iPhone stay until you delete them or you delete the app. A video you already saved to Photos or shared stays until you delete it there.
  • Audio sent for Autocut, transcripts, and cut plans are kept with the account until the account is deleted or you ask for them to be deleted.
  • Cloud media is removed after you delete the project and the cleanup finishes.
  • Support tickets and chat are kept so the request can be answered and reviewed.
  • Amplitude keeps analytics under Amplitude’s own retention.

To delete your account, tap Delete account in Settings and type DELETE to confirm. This permanently deletes your account, projects, uploads, support history and usage records. Apple keeps its own record of the purchase.

Your rights

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you can ask for access, correction, erasure, restriction, a copy, and objection, and you can withdraw consent. You can complain to a supervisory authority. In the UK, that includes the ICO. We aim to respond within 30 days.

If a US state privacy law applies to you, you can ask for access and deletion.

If you are in India, you can ask for access, correction, and erasure, and you can raise a grievance.

Send these requests to support@shifucut.com.

Age

ShifuCut is for people 18 and older. It is not made for children. The app does not ask for a date of birth.

Tracking

ShifuCut does not link data from this app with other companies’ apps or sites for advertising, and it does not share data with a data broker. It does not show an App Tracking Transparency prompt. The Amplitude analytics described above are still personal data.

Automated suggestions

Autocut suggests which ranges to keep. You review the timeline. The suggestion can be wrong. It is not a decision about credit, employment, or anything similar.

Security

The account session is sent over HTTPS. Cloud media is not end-to-end encrypted.
